WSOP going strong, Oh Bah Muh!, online poker too?

Published by rdmd97 at 1:17 am under Uncategorized Edit This

In no particular order because I like to write whatever comes to my mind sometimes.  When I play online poker now I don’t seem to have the patience to play just one slow table.  One hand ever 45 seconds is just too damn long I tell ya!  So I’m playing a $5 sit n go and I have another $10 on a .05/.10 no limit table.  Now these tables are usually very passive.  I like them when I’m playing a sit n go because they help kill time in between tournament hands and maybe I can win a few extra bucks.  So this one guy…or gal… decides to start jamming every hand preflop.  3 times in a row this happens and I fold away and keep playing my little tournament.  Well what do you know, but I get Aces on the cash table.  One player bets $0.30 and our buddy jams about $5.40 into the pot.  I call and initial raiser meekly folds.  In cash games on PokerStars they don’t flip the card right away like in tournaments.  So I’m glad to see another Ace on the flop.  When all is said and done my Aces beat his/her pocket 9’s.  So now my buy in for my tournament is paid for!  Woo Hoo!  Nothing interesting happened in the sit n go other than me going out 11th or 12th.  So on to more exciting topics!

Before I get into the WSOP and Obamamania I wanted to tell the story of the home game drunk lady heads up match from a few weeks ago.  I live in a new neighborhood.  Homes were all built within the last couple of years…. Don’t ask what I paid and what it’s worth now please…  Anyway, my neighbor down the street and I have put together two neighborhood home games, the first was at my house and he hosted the second one a few weeks ago.  The poker’s not great, but it’s a great way to get to know the neighbors and if your lucky you may even win a few bucks.  So we are playing a $20 tournament with rebuys for the first hour and we have 13 people.  Nothing much worth noting other than I got going right around the end of the first hour when I flopped the nut flush and took the entire stack of the guy who held pocket queens with the queen high flush draw.  I fight back after taking a few hits and eventually end up heads up with a lady who was drinking wine, and lots of it, from start to finish.  She was getting card after card after card and single handedly took out most of the players.  So by the time we are heads up she has me slightly outchipped and I start raising every hand.  She folds mostly and when she plays back I don’t give her action without a hand.  The funny part is she’s so drunk that she has her husband and another friend/neighbor counting her chips out for her because she can barely see them let alone hold them.  She’d say something like, “Just raise him a little.”  Usually it was either telling them to call my raise or just folding.  I finally end it when my QJ catches and beats her Ace rag and I’m the current neighborhood title holder.  Give me a cookie!

The WSOP is in full swing and the pro’s are kicking some butt.  Erick Lindgren, ”Zee Justin” Bonomo, and Roland de Wolfe are currently 3 of the 5 remaining in the $5,000 mixed holdem event.   Howard Lederer and David Williams were also part of this final table.   Daniel Negreanu, Nam Le, and Michael Binger are all closing in on the final table in the $1,000 rebuy event.   And David Singer is battling an unknown for the $1,500 Pot Limit title right now.  There has been a lot of good poker and not a lot of outside crazy stories yet.  Be patient though, there’s plenty of time left!  How could I forget about Jesus!  Chris ”Jesus” Ferguson made a run in the donkfest $1500 NL event and finished 3rd.   I’m enjoying Pauly’s daily blogging at Tao of Poker.  He gets all the goods going on at the tables and in the halls of the Rio.  It makes for entertaining reading.  I highly recommend it.  Maybe if I’m lucky he’ll post a link to my silly little blog on his site!  Or not….

Well it looks like Obama has done it.  Hillary couldn’t actually say the words, but she got as close to quiting as she could without actually saying it.  You know, maybe she really is waiting for him to get whacked and then she’ll be able to just step right in.  She did have the cajones to say that she would consider being his running mate if it came to that.  Um,  why would he want you?  Your husband has done nothing but rip the guy to shreads.  Talk about playing the race card.  For considering himself the first black president of the United States Bill sure can be a racist!  Now they’re saying she’s going to concede Friday evening.   We’ll see.

John McCain has sent a letter to Obama personally inviting him to do a series of Town Hall style meetings/debates/discussions and to actually travel to them together.  The letter was posted on the Drudge Report.  This has got to be one of the greatest ideas I have ever heard of.  Presidential debates now are some of the most scripted and contrived events I’ve ever seen.  I don’t think Obama could stand up to McCain in these types of town hall settings and I don’t see how he can refuse to do them.  Maybe Hillary isn’t conceding for a reason.  Without a script in front of him the guy stumbles over his words like a high school freshman in the debate club.  Obama has so many flaws that are going to be hammered on from here on in he’s going to think Hillary was giving him a sponge bath for the last 6 months!   And what about McCain?  The only flaws he seems to have other than his age is the fact that he is called too liberal on several issues.  How in the hell is Obama going to pound on him when he agrees with him?!?!   The war is going well now.  The people who have been against it from the beginning won’t change their minds no matter what and the far right Bush supporters won’t admit when it’s going bad, but the middle of the road people can look at it and say, “yeah it wasn’t going very well, but the surge really seemed to work and John McCain is the guy who should be allowed to finish it.”  That’s my opinion anyway.  Until next time…
